Description
Fundamental rights issues in the context of European Union external border management and return policies receive high attention by policy makers and media, particularly against the backdrop of the recent unprecedented migration influx.
In order to facilitate its follow-up work to past research activities in this context (such as the reports on the treatment of third-country nationals at external EU border - at southern sea borders, at airports and at land borders, on immigration detention of children, on biometric data in large EU IT systems), FRA seeks to identify up-to-date fundamental rights challenges and possible good practices occurring in the context of border management and return and readmission.
In this context, the objective of this service (which took place between May and August 2019) is to provide information to the FRA on fundamental rights compliance during external border management and return and readmission based on a review of recent publications such as reports, articles, statements and news items, as well as national case law.
This information will be used to identify specific issues, procedures and locations/facilities where fundamental rights concerns and possible good practices arise in the context of border management and return and readmission.
