Julia ZOMIGNANI BARBOZA
Biography
Júlia joined the Fundamental Rights Research Centre (FRC) as a PhD researcher in 2018. In 2024, she concluded her PhD research on undesirable unreturnables. In FRC, Júlia contributes to multiple research projects. She was involved in the development of the second and third editions of the ICRC and Brussels Privacy Hub Handbook on Data Protection in Humanitarian Action and in the EU-funded projects Rebuild, HEROES and ALUNA. Currently, she is part of FRC’s team working in the FAIR project and she also manages FRC’s role as national FRANET contractor.
Júlia holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Presbyterian University Mackenzie in Brazil, and an LL.M in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights from the Geneva Academy. In Geneva, she worked as a legal researcher at the human rights NGO Alkarama and as an associate at the International Committee of the Red Cross. Before joining the VUB, she also worked as a legal advocate for asylum seekers and refugees at Asylum Access Thailand in Bangkok and as a legal assistant at the Refugee Advice and Casework Services in Sydney.
