On 19 September 2019, FRC researcher Júlia Zomignani Barboza participated as a panellist in the event Human Rights in Danger – Tensions and Security in Asia, organised by the World Solidarity Forum. Sharing the panel with Hacer Z. Gonul and Shamila Mahmood, Júlia combined her human rights and migration background to speak about the human rights situation for asylum seekers and refugees in Thailand and Malaysia. The panel presentation was followed by a fruitful Q&A session with the audience. Júlia’s knowledge on the topic presented comes from the time she worked as a legal advocate for asylum seekers and refugees in Bangkok. Her work in Thailand and in Australia inspired her current PhD research on undesirable but unreturnable migrants.
