Several FRC members will participate in the International Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Conference on 'The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 75: Rethinking and Constructing Its Future Together' taking place at Ghent University (Belgium) from 6 to 8 December 2023.
The 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights will be celebrated on 10 December 2023. Since its adoption, the Declaration has been read in multiple ways. Some have been inspired by it, other have found it wanting. At this conference, Ghent University will take stock and look forward, embracing a resolute engagement with human rights in their multiple contemporary dimensions. The conference is an initiative of the UGent Human Rights Research Network (HRRN). The conference has many thematic streams concerning contemporary human rights issues.
Stefaan Smis speaks at the Roundtable discussion 'Crossing the Planetary Boundaries: A View from the Business and Human Rights Framework and Global Environmental Justice' and is discussant for the panel Human Rights and Accountability chaired by Rosamunde Van Brakel.
Paul De Hert speaks at the Roundtable discussion 'Accountability and Human Rights: The Many Definitions and Dimensions ' and chairs the Panel 'Human Rights and Accountability: an Institutional Perspective'.
Aleydis Nissen chairs a Panel on 'Gender-Transformative Remediation to End Corporate Violence against Women'.
Cristina Cocito and Lander Govaerts both present their research at a Panel on 'Harm, Human Rights and Accountability'.
