Lander Govaerts
Biography
Lander holds a bachelor’s degree in political sciences and sociology (KU Leuven, Turku University), a master's degree in sociology (KU Leuven) and a master's degree in conflict and development (UGent). As a thesis, Lander wrote an analysis of Toestand vzw focussing on the occupation of space in the city and on the possibility to escape the capitalist axiom, based on the work of Deleuze and Guattari. Afterwards, Lander followed the teacher training program at the VUB and worked during two years in vocational education in Brussels in an attempt to contribute to an emancipatory educational praxis.
From October 2021, Lander will be part of the iBOF-project ‘Future-proofing human rights. Developing thicker forms of accountability’ in a collaboration between the VUB and the Universities of Ghent, Antwerp and Hasselt. Lander will focus on how corporate actors are influencing accountability mechanisms of law enforcement in Belgium to deal with surveillance wrongs. Lander will start this research from his main interests: the logic of capital accumulation, the liquidation of the subject by capital and the production and reproduction of urban life and space.
