Yassine Boubout
Biography
Yassine Boubout graduated in Law in 2022 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Aside from his studies, Yassine had been working on policing from a young age. In 2018 he started JustX, a non-profit to research police misconduct and support victims of police violence. He worked closely with NGOs such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and la Ligue des droits humains. Together with 7 NGOs, he founded a collective called ‘Platform Stop Ethnic Profiling’ to tackle and research ethnic profiling in Belgium.
Together with different youth organisations, Yassine led many community-oriented police projects to support local police corps in getting closer to local communities. He often mediates between police and youngsters. With his ‘Know Your Rights’ lectures, he travelled the country advising youngsters and social workers on their rights and duties during a police intervention.
In 2021, during his final master's year, Yassine started working at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the United Nations in New York City. He worked on the Economic and Social Committee of the UN and represented Belgium in all environmental resolutions. He furthermore worked on numerous (country) development resolutions where he had to negotiate the outcome documents.
Yassine is currently in South Sudan working as a country representative for Medécines Sans Frontières, where he will be in charge of the implementation of a new project.
