Mathias Holvoet
Biography
Mathias Holvoet is currently a Lecturer in International Criminal Law at the Department of Criminal Law of the University of Amsterdam and a member of the Amsterdam Center for Criminal Justice (ACCJ).
In 2018, he defended his PhD at the Institute for European Studies and the Fundamental Rights Research Centre on the policy element within the definition for crimes against humanity. Mathias has been involved in guest lecturing and supervising theses in relation to International Criminal Law for the Brussels School of Governance. Furthermore, Mathias has experience in the practice of International Criminal Law, having been a Visiting Professional within Chambers of the International Criminal Court (2017) and having worked as a Legal Officer involved in international and European cooperation in criminal matters and the prosecution of international core crimes cases at the Federal Prosecutor`s Office of Belgium.
Dr. Holvoet research interests lie primarily within the fields of International Criminal Law, Transnational Criminal Law, European Criminal Law and International Human Rights Law. His work has been published in the Journal of International Criminal Justice, the International Criminal Law Review and the Criminal Law Forum.
