On November 7-8, 2024, the HEROES Project will host its Final Event at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, featuring impactful discussions and tool demonstrations aimed at addressing Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSA/CSE) and Trafficking in Human Beings (THB). The HEROES Project, funded by the EU, is dedicated to developing solutions that protect vulnerable individuals through a victim-centered approach encompassing Prevention, Investigation, and Victim Assistance.
During the event’s HEROES Impact Panel, FRC-VUB member Nadine El-Dekmak will present on the topic: "Navigating Challenges Related to Trauma Bonding of Victims and Reintegration of Perpetrators through the HEROES Lens." This presentation will focus on the complexities of trauma bonding in victims of CSA/CSE and THB, alongside the importance of effective reintegration programs for perpetrators to better support victims and lower recidivism rates.
In the HEROES Tools Demonstration session, Nadine will also lead a presentation on the Legal and Ethical Considerations of Undercover Investigations in Online CSA/CSE Crimes. This session will delve into the sensitive balance between leveraging advanced investigative methods for CSA/CSE prevention and upholding the fundamental rights of suspects and third parties, offering insights into the responsible use of innovative tools developed specifically for such operations.
This Final Event promises to be an invaluable platform for connecting with professionals dedicated to combating CSA/CSE and THB, gaining insight into cutting-edge research, and exploring HEROES' pioneering tools.
