Dongshu Zhou
Biography
Dr. Dongshu Zhou is a researcher at the Fundamental Rights Center (FRC) of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), specializing in Sino-European legal cooperation, personal data protection, e-commerce law, privacy law, human rights, and artificial intelligence law. He obtained his PhD in European Law from the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, where his research focused on the protection of personal data within international, EU, and Chinese legal frameworks. During his doctoral studies, Dr. Zhou was awarded a prestigious full scholarship from the China Scholarship Council (CSC). In addition to his academic work, Dr. Zhou has served as legal counsel to a range of private entities as well as national and international organizations, providing expert guidance on privacy, technology, human rights, and international law. He is also the head of the Help Chinese NPO Legal Protection Association, where he advocates for the legal protection of Chinese communities in Italy. Dr. Zhou’s research has been widely published in leading legal journals, and he has delivered presentations at numerous national and international conferences on topics such as EU-China legal cooperation, the Belt and Road Initiative, personal data protection, privacy law, human rights, and AI law. His work is noted for its bridging of the European and Chinese legal landscapes, particularly in addressing critical issues surrounding privacy and technology. Dr. Zhou is fluent in Chinese, Italian, and English, and is progressively advancing his proficiency in French and Spanish.
