The DESIrE Consortium is happy to invite you to its consensus building workshop in Uppsala on 26 October 2018, where DESIrE project partners will identify best practice policies and recommendations on how to combat trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
As you know, the DESIrE Project aims at contributing to prevent trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation by generating a better understanding of the impact of different models of sex work/prostitution on the prevalence of trafficking in human beings. To that purpose, we have:
- Defined core terms in our research such as demand, sexual exploitation and prevention;
- Outlined different legislative models that exist regarding sex work/prostitution across Europe on basis of four countries selected because of their very different approaches to sex work/prostitution (Croatia, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden);
- Conducted fieldwork in these countries and interviewed various stakeholders - such as NGO workers, policy makers, persons selling sex, law enforcement officials, trafficking survivors and the general public - in order to understand their approach to sex work/prostitution, sexual exploitation and trafficking for purposes of sexual exploitation, and the laws and policies regulating sex work/prostitution;
- Identified technological and non-technological alternatives to legislation that can accompany the legislative framework in the fight against trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation (deliverables are forthcoming).
It is now time to integrate all this information and generate consensus around good practice policies and future measures that could be used to combat trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation. This is what we will be doing in this workshop in Uppsala hosted by the Swedish DESIrE partner. Do not miss the opportunity to be part of this process and register thanks to the link below.
