Bianca-Ioana Marcu
Biography
Bianca obtained her LLM in International Law and Globalisation from Maastricht University in 2017, where she specialised in human rights law.
She has been a certified Data Protection Officer since 2018, working as Senior Programmes Coordinator and DPO at ESOMAR, where she designed GDPR compliance frameworks for SMEs. Prior to her work in data protection, Bianca also worked as Research Assistant for the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and as Gender Justice Project Lead for Gender Concerns International, a women’s rights NGO in The Hague.
During her time at the Fundamental Rights Research Centre (FRC) and the Law, Science, Technology and Society (LSTS) Research Groups at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Bianca worked on the EU-funded project OPTED, aimed at designing a framework for political text analysis in the European Union. She conducted research into the legal, ethical, and fundamental rights implications of conducting political text analysis using Artificial Intelligence tools. During this time, Bianca was also the Co-Director of Belgian NGO Privacy Salon, and manager of the CPDP Conference.
Currently, Bianca is Policy Manager for Global Privacy at the Future of Privacy Forum, continuing work in personal data protection, global privacy frameworks, and fundamental rights.
