Mathias Holvoet is currently an Assistant Professor in (Inter)national Criminal Law at the Department of Criminal Law of the University of Amsterdam and a member of the Amsterdam Center for Criminal Justice (ACCJ)
In 2018, he defended his PhD at the Institute for European Studies and the Fundamental Rights Research Centre on the policy element within the definition for crimes against humanity. Mathias has been involved in guest lecturing and supervising for the course ‘International and European Criminal Law’ within the LLM in International and European Law of the Institute for European Studies. Mathias worked as a legal officer on issues of international and European judicial cooperation for the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of Belgium (2018-2020) and as a Visiting Professional at the Chambers of the International Criminal Court (2017).
Dr. Holvoet research interests lie primarily within the fields of International Criminal Law, Transnational Criminal Law, European Criminal Law and International Humanitarian Law. His work has been published in the Journal of International Criminal Justice, the International Criminal Law Review and the Criminal Law Forum.
