Júlia graduated in Law in 2012 in Brazil, where she completed different internships and volunteer positions in varied fields of law. She holds an LL.M in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights from the Geneva Academy. In Geneva, she worked as a legal researcher at the human rights NGO Alkarama and as an associate at the International Committee of the Red Cross. Before joining the VUB, she also worked as a legal advocate for asylum seekers and refugees at Asylum Access Thailand in Bangkok and as a legal assistant at the Refugee Advice and Casework Services in Sydney.

Júlia became a PhD candidate at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in October 2018. While developing her research on undesirable but unreturnable migrants, she contributes to multiple research projects. She was involved in the development of the second edition of the ICRC and Brussels Privacy Hub Handbook on Data Protection in Humanitarian Action and on the Horizon 2020 Rebuild project. Currently, she is part of FRC’s team working on the HEROES project and also manages FRC’s role as national FRANET contractor.
